Great Moments in Anatomy Lab

Today in anatomy lab I was using the suction to clean the fluid out of the body bag. This fluid, scientifically known as DHBF (or Dead Human Body Fluid) is comprised of melted fat, extra embalming fluid, and random juices from the cadaver.

Unfortunately, I had an accident.

While I lifted up the body bag to try to get the DHBF to pool for easier suctioning, I accidentally inverted the corner, releasing a hidden pocket of DHBF which streamed directly for my leg.

As I stood there, feeling somebody else's fat running down my leg, I thought to myself,

"The worst part about this isn't the fact that I have DHBF running down my leg.

"It's that this is the second time I've done this to myself."

I squirted stomach juice into my dissection partner's eye.

I'd have rather had the DHBF on my pants.

My dissection partner would have preferred that as well.

Do you ever wear facemasks or goggles just in case?

I mean I couldn't imagine anything more horrific than getting a dead persons juices in my mouth. Or face. Or anything like that :S

i saw this urologist catherizing a patient (a very difficult case). urine mixed w/ blood squirted onto the resident who happened to stand in the right direction...the experienced urologist smiled as he stood on the side of the patient (good place to be, out of the trajectory range)

I'm afraid to laugh, Karma will hit me back 3 times...

If you don't get hit with some juice sooner or later, and probably more than once, you're a sissy for not getting involved enough!

Couldn't help myself. I snickered. I hope anonymous is wrong about the karma. Thanks for sharing.

lol, I guess we were lucky our cadavers were already laid out on the dissection tables ready and waiting for us.

Was it left or right leg? I had DHBF on my right leg:-)

For this reason I always wear a mask with a shield in the OR. One squirt in the eye of "precious bodily fluid" is all it took to make a believer out of me!

Well, if it's fluids you're trying to avoid, don't EVER let some snickering resident offer to let you be the one to reduce sigmoid volvulus with a scope.

Today was a DHBF field day.

DHBF on my glasses, face, and on my scrub pants (of course).

But surprise surprise... when I went back to change, the DHBF had soaked through, leaving a spot on my boxers that I would be wearing for the next 12 hours.

Gotta love that DHBF... We should make a song about it Vitum.

Gross. This just confirms that I made the right decision and went into teaching... I've only had to clean up puke.
