Yes, I'm looking forward to the day when I get a nice, shiny, new, pager.
Yes, I am excited about what I'll have to run off and do when it first goes off.
Yes, I know that eventually I will look back on this post and realize how naive I am, and how pagers are of the devil, and how I should never have wished for one.
But right now I think that being in the clinical years will be so much better than the basic science stuff we are learning right now. Studying for finals sucks!
I too, am a nerd. I am no longer thrilled over call, I take about 4-5 nights a week, but I love it when I get paged. Most of the time everyone calls the cell phone, hearing the pager go off is a treat. I have an answering service who sends me a text message when I am paged. One surgeon's surgery scheduler paged me the other day and said, "Sorry I had to page you." I assured her that no, no, I like it! She laughed and said, "Because it makes you feel important." I think she might be right.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to page you just for fun next year or when there's a case of an emergency hangnail...
ReplyDeleteYou can have mine too
ReplyDeleteI was excited too. There is still adent in the on-call room wall at the Montreal Children's Hospital from where I threw mine clear across the room at 3:30 am on my first night on call.
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm kidding.
They've renovated.
